Judge Yerger to retire on Dec. 31, 2010

Judge Swan Yerger will retire at the end of this term of office. He has served as Hinds County Circuit Judge since 1997, and has been Senior Judge of the Hinds County Circuit Court since Judge Breland Hilburn's retirement in June of 2002.

He has served ably, and this writer has considered it a privilege to practice before him.

    What immediate changes will the new Chief Judge, Green, be able to effect come January of 11?

    She'll have control over case assignments, as well as the appointment of the Hinds County Public Defender. Additionally, various jobs in the county can only be filled when she signs an order OK-ing it.

    Anonymous at 5:20, where do you get the idea that Judge Green won't be an effective Senior Judge?
